S4, E97: Out With 2016, In With 2017

It’s my annual review of how the year went, good, bad, and meh, how I did with my goals, and looking at my financials for the year. Ending the episode by sharing my writing-related goals for 2017! News & Notes: Gotten a few more chapters of the NaNo 2016 project written, thanks to Dragon, and even wrote some while at a sing-along get together event. Also used Dragon to get more work done on the non-fiction project 2016…Oh This Year! I realized Deviations abject failure, the stress/drain of all that overtime earlier in the year to finish a project at […]

S4, E92: Long Silence, My Why, and NaNo Update #1

After almost two months away from the “air”, I get a bit emotional talking about October, then move on to my contemplations of “my why” and the future of my books. Due to the long stretch between episodes, I also tacked on my first NaNo 2016 update, pathetic though it is. My Heartache It’s been almost two months since my last episode. October ended up being the worst year in my life for me. I didn’t do much writing-related activity at all. Nothing with Girl in the Forest’s revision. Nothing with Maid Maleen. And no podcast episodes recorded at all. […]

Girl in the Forest Cover Reveal!

While progress on Girl in the Forest is a bit delayed due to some life issues that pretty much killed anything creative or otherwise in October, I did want to finally share with you Girl in the Forest’s cover!  After all, it started life as a NaNo novel, so revealing its cover at the start of NaNo seemed appropriate. Designed by the wonderful Kerry Hynds of Hynds Studio, I love the feel and look of this cover, as well as the great model whose expression so perfectly embodies Yuna! First, the eBook cover: And here is the paperback cover! The […]

S4, E91: Anma’s Manga Minute and Hakodate Hearts

Introducing my new side audio blog type project, Anma’s Manga Minute, and giving a more “formal” introduction to my Hakodate Hearts book series, including selected readings from both Aisuru and Deviations.   Fair warning: as this episode includes a reading from Deviations, it has a bit more cussing than usual 🙂 News & Notes: Computer woes – desktop video card died and laptop had to have Windows reinstall Girl in the Forest updates: feedback in, revision progress and cover progress Anma’s Manga Minute New “vlog”/blog thing about Anime and Manga! YouTube and blog only for now Check out the intro […]

S4, E90: Camp NaNo Ending and Final Promo

Camp Nano ended in abject failure and I contemplate the future of the Maid Maleen project before discussing my hastily done promo for Aisuru. While the sales were pitiful, the ROI was great, though still a disappointment. Which leads into my last topic: where things stand with Girl in the Forest and the struggles of being fiscally responsible while also trying to produce great products and a great reader experience.

Want to Help Decide My Series Name? 1

As I mentioned in my most recent episode and in my goals update, I’m going to be “repackaging” Aisuru, Deviations, and the upcoming Girl in the Forest into a proper “series” of linked novels.  They are set in a shared world, with Aisuru and Deviations being in Hakodate, Japan, and Girl in the Forest being in Aokigahara primarily, but featuring a character from Hakodate.  Fans of the stories will find little links between the characters themselves as well. 🙂   Further, all three stories have a shared theme, if you will, of people ready to give up on life who find […]

S4, E87: Of Plans and Being a Failure

Some updates and excited babbling about my trip, followed by discussing my updated plans for the rest of the year and my free-talking a bit about the idea of being a failure and coming to terms with it. News & Notes: Back from Italy – awesome trip Sterling & Stone Smarter Artist Bootcamp Moved to a new web host Plans for Writing Between the trip and the Bootcamp, I was able to help clear my head a bit and get re-energized. It also helped me come to terms with some of my doubts even as Aisuru and Deviations both continue […]

S3, E79: NaNo 2015, Special #4

Belated update on my NaNo progress for the last ten days, writing my first shirt story, and I share the second chapter of Girl in the Forest News & Notes: NaNo Update – 16,933 words added plus… Wrote my first short story! Another 5,125 words Girl in the Forest snippet (Day 1, Present) Current Word Count: 42,271; story now in Day 6, evening in the present; +5,125 for Knives and the Girl

Never Say Never: My First Short

I’ve always said that I “don’t write short fiction” at all.  That I’m too wordy and verbose and that my stories just tend to be long.  Heck, Aisuru is just over 100,000 words, Deviations is currently clocking in at 90,000 or so.  Girl in the Forest may run a little short, but I suspect once revised it will still end up being around 50-60,000 words. But then, yesterday morning I woke up from a vivid dream with this story scene in my head.  Usually when I get those it’s just a snippet and goes away before I even finish my morning […]
